Peking Opera Wusheng on a Candlelit Courtyard Stage

A commanding, strikingly handsome Peking opera wusheng stands on an ancient, candlelit traditional Chinese courtyard stage at night. The heroic young performer wears an exquisite, ornate white traditional wusheng costume (kao), densely embroidered with lavish gold, blue and red dragons, clouds and flame patterns, sequins, beads, pearls and tassels. He wears the solemn traditional wusheng crown (kaoguan), decorated with vivid phoenix carving, multicolored pompoms, feathers and two long ornamental pheasant plumes sweeping high into the air. Four ornate white banners (kaoqi) rise from his back, likewise embroidered with golden dragons and cloud patterns and edged with decorative trim.
